A new scheme of ICMR “Nurturing Clinical Scientists Scheme” is being instituted to foster high quality research opportunities to promising fresh MBBS degree holders in the cutting edge areas of communicable and non communicable diseases, and reproductive health including nutrition etc. at MCI recognized medical colleges/ICMR network of Institutes/Centers, among others.  Special focus will be on fundamental research in areas of health research and other priority areas identified by ICMR from time to time, keeping in mind the National Health Policy 2017.

The selected candidates will enroll themselves for pursuing MPH/Ph.D. in any UGC recognized University/MCI recognized medical colleges/institutes. The applicants will have to submit a Concept Note of the research work (1000 words only) to be undertaken for pursuing MPH/Ph.D. to ICMR for the same. Applications are invited under this new initiative of ICMR “Nurturing Clinical Scientists Scheme” on a consolidated salary of Rs. One lakh/month, (No HRA is admissible) on or before 22nd June 2018 (by 5:30pm).

1.      Essential Qualification:  MBBS degree from MCI recognized medical colleges, passing all MBBS examination in the first attempt with 60% or more aggregate marks.

  1. Tenure: 

Three years (2+1). In case a candidate leaves the scheme before completion of one year, then he/she will have to refund the entire salary and contingency amount to ICMR for that time period.

  1. Maximum Age Limit:

32 years, relaxable up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/PH  and 3 years for OBC and women candidates, as on last date of application. For deserving candidates also, age can be relaxed maximum up to maximum of 3 years based on earlier work done, publications, awards etc. along with the request by sponsoring Principal/Director/Director-in-charge. Director General, ICMR may consider and relax on the recommendation of the Screening Committee.

  1. Remuneration:

ICMR Clinical Scientists will be paid a consolidated salary of Rs. One lakh per month, (No HRA) and Research Contingency of Rs. Five lakhs for three years (Rs. 1.67 lakhs per year to be utilized for research work). The fellowship amount will be paid to the concerned institute/organization/university/medical college, in every six months installments.

  1. Mode of Selection:

Eligible candidates must route their applications as per instructions given below before the given deadline. Application received after the closing date will not be considered. Selection of the “ICMR-Nurturing Clinical Scientists” will be made by specially constituted Committee by Director General, ICMR based on their Concept Note, Academic and Professional records. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on ICMR website and Emails will be sent only to the selected candidates. The selected candidates will have to submit their joining within three months from the date of issue of award letter.

  1. Accommodation and other benefits:

No accommodation facilities will be provided by ICMR.


  1. Completed applications (only in prescribed format-please see Annexure-1) to be duly filled and submitted along with the required Concept Note and other certificates and degrees (in PDF format) as required ONLY through email at, addressed to: Dr. N. a)      Concept Note of the Research Proposal (1000 words only)

b)      Academic & Professional certificates/degrees.

c)      Caste and Disability Certificate (if applicable).

d)      Detailed and updated CV.


1. Application received after the closing date for whatever reason is liable to be rejected.

2. If the fact that false information has been furnished or that there has been suppression of any material information in the application form by the applicant comes to our notice, then his/her application is liable to be rejected.

3. Incomplete applications or applications not in the prescribed format and not signed by the candidate are liable to be rejected.
