Educational Qualifications:

  • 2009 - Doctor of Philosphy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India
Dissertation: Diversity and evolution of fimbrial gene clusters in prokaryotes
A computational study of the diversity of fimbrial gene clusters in prokaryotes. The study highlighted extensive diversity in sequence of genes and gene-order in fimbrial gene clusters. Graph-based classification of fimbrial genes and gene-clusters showed that fusion of fimbrial clusters followed by gene-loss is common in fimbrial gene clusters. Comparison of diversity and substitution rates showed that change in the ecological or biochemical environment affects the rate of evolution of fimbrial genes.
  • 1999 – M.Sc. (Honors School), Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh
Gold Medal for securing first position
Dissertation: A novel saccharifying amylase from solid-state clusters of Aspergillus oryzae HS-3 and its application in hydrolysis of starch for ethanol fermentation
