Definitions of terms used in limitation of treatment and providing palliative care at end of life

Under the direction of Dr Soumya Swaminathan, DG, ICMR and Secretary DHR, Indian Council of Medical Research, an expert group was commissioned to finalize definitions of terms pertaining to End of Life Care. Since end of life care refers to health care, not only of patients in the final hours or days of their lives, but more broadly care of all those with a terminal illness or terminal disease condition that has become advanced, progressive and incurable. In order to bring the terminology to current world wide consensus and to create a better understanding of the terms used in end of life care, the expert group has drafted the definitions pertaining to End of Life care.
