motivate them and finally the formal permission was granted.
The concerned CDPO's and supervisors were also given necessary
instructions by the Directorate in this regard.
2. Selection of the two study areas
The two study areas namely a rural area and a city slum area
were explored and a number of Anganwadi centres covered by six
ICDS projects-Mohanlal Ganj, Chinhat, Sarojini Nagar, Bakshi
Ka Talab, Itaunja and Aliganj were visited by the research team.
By talking to the ICDS functionaries and local people, the functional
status of these centres was determined and a list of twelve
Anganwadi Centres (six each in the experimental and control
areas) including four centres previously selected to carry out
reliability exercises was prepared. These were thought to be
the best functioning Anganwadi centres in the two study areas
by the respective CDPO's. A sample of 180 families was randomly
drawn from these Anganwadi centres.
