Mohanlalganj (includes Mastipur, Bhairvi Khera and Imilikha .Khera) (Experimental Rural Area):

Village Bhairvi khera is situated about 40 Kms away from the Department of psychiatry on Siseni Road. All the families in this village are Hindus. The main occupation of the families is agriculture (50%) and service (50%).

Description of Village Mastipur

Village Mastipur is situated about 35 Kms. away from the Department of Psychiatry on Lucknow -Rae Bareli Road. It is accessible by the State .Roadways bus service. The literacy rate in this village is comparatively better. The families belong to Hindu religion. The main occupation of the families is agriculture (50%) and.service (50%).

Imilikha Khera is situated about 41 Kms. away from the Department of psychiatry on Maurawan Road. All the families in this village are Hindus. The literacy rate is very low. The main occupation of the families is agriculture.

Sarojini Nagar (Control Rural Area)

Village Chillawan is situated about 19 Kms away from the Department of Psychiatry on Lucknow Kanpur highway. Frequent transport is readily available. More than 50% families are Hindus. People in this village are engaged in the occupation such as agriculture, service, and sales etc. The literacy rate is also comparatively better.

Village Behsa (Purab and Paschim) is situated about 17 Kms. away from the Department of psychiatry on Lucknow Kanpur Road. It has a population of about 2,500 with two Anganwadi Centres. Most of the families are Hindus. The illiteracy rate is quite low. The main occupation of the families is agriculture.

(c) Delhi Centre

The pilot study of the intervention phase was done in the Mehrauli Area. Mehrauli was selected because it was very near to Safdarjang Hospital and as the staff had to go to the field for the interventions, the first point kept in mind was easy accessibility to the field. Though in terms of distance the Mehrauli ICDS area was not very near to the Safdarjang Hospital but it had easy accessibility in terms of transportation. Out of the entire ICDS Mehrauli two areas were selected.
